About Our School: The = mission of=20 Anderson County High School is to care for all students, to engage them = in=20 learning, and to prepare them for the future. ACHS uses modified block=20 scheduling as a means to provide students with increased learning = opportunities=20 to earn credits and to meet state graduation requirements. Overall, we = offer a=20 variety of programs such as advanced placement, vocational, college = prep, and=20 school-to-work. ACHS is an accredited school through the Souther = Association of=20 College and Schools (SACS). As our faculty and staff strive to meet the = needs of=20 a diverse and growing student population, we certainly welcome parental = input=20 and participation. How We Are Doing

Kentucky uses the Commonwealth Accountability = Testing System=20 (CATS) to hold schools accountable for student progress. CATS has three = parts:=20 the Kentucky Core Content Tests, readiness tests by grade level, and = other=20 measures of the school's performance,

including attendance, retention and dropout rates. = These=20 elements make up a school's CATS Performance Score for every two-year = period.=20 The goal is that by 2014 nearly all students will score proficient or=20 distinguished.

Kentucky Core Content = Tests:=20 Kentucky's tests rate student performance as either Novice, Apprentice,=20 Proficient, or Distinguished. These categories translate into a scale of = 0-140,=20 with 100 being considered proficient. How We Use = Technology to=20 Teach: Technology is integrated throughout the Anderson County = High=20 School curriculum. Instruction in all of the content areas is enhanced = with the=20 technology that is available for the teachers and students. State Contest Results: Advanced chorus received a=20 distinguished rating at district assessment, 10 students received = distinguished=20 ratings at District Solo/Ensemble assessment, 6 students made all state=20 chorus,and the chorus sang for the Governor in the Capital Rotunda. The = Marching=20 Band was a state semi-finalist,3rd consecutive year. FFA had a regional=20 impromptu winner and 3rd place record book team. At the state Foreign = Language=20 Festival, we had 4 state winners in French and in Spanish.

What We are Doing to = Improve:=20 During the 2007-2008 school year, Anderson County High School focused on = the=20 following major areas; implemented the district wide Closing the = Achievement Gap=20 initiative, increased student achievement on AP tests through the = Advance=20 Kentucky AP initiative, initiated a school-wide literacy program, = reduced the=20 number of 9th grade failures, and incorportated ACT-type reading = questions into=20 courses to improve student achievement on the ACT.
